Hello Orca Families — Happy June
“Life is beautiful not because of the things we see or the things we do. Life is beautiful because of the people we meet.” —Simon Sinek
As I look back on the 2024–2025 school year, this quote truly speaks to my experience. I feel incredibly lucky to spend my days with such bright, enthusiastic students, surrounded by hard working staff who make up our amazing school community.
It’s hard to believe the end of the school year is already here! What an amazing year it has been at Olympic View Elementary. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our Orca families for your continued partnership, and to our phenomenal staff for their unwavering dedication, care, and commitment to our students.
As summer approaches, I hope you find time to slow down and enjoy the company of those who bring you joy.
We have several exciting events planned to help us finish the year strong!
🌈 Color Run – Thursday, June 6: Students will be participating in our fun and colorful end-of-year run! If you are a cleared volunteer, you're welcome to come watch and cheer on our Orcas as they race through bursts of color.
🏃♀️ Field Day – Thursday, June 13: One of our favorite days of the year! Cleared volunteers are welcome to help run stations and support students as they rotate through a variety of fun, active games. If you're available and cleared, we’d love to have your help!
These final weeks are a great time to check in with your child about what they’ve learned and the progress they’ve made. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing their academic and social growth firsthand—and it is truly something special.
Thank you for a wonderful school year. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need anything.
Warm regards,
Sara Lucero

Buddy Reading Fun!
Our 3rd grade students had a wonderful time visiting the kindergarten classrooms for a special Buddy Reading session! 💛📘
Each Third Grader paired up with a Kindergartener to read favorite storybooks together. It was heartwarming to see the older students take on the role of reading mentors, helping younger buddies discover the joy of books. 🌟
This special activity builds reading confidence, friendships, and a love of learning across grade levels. Great job, readers!

Dear Olympic View Families,
As we close out another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for your partnership, support, and trust throughout the year. It has been an honor watching our students grow, learn, and lead in so many meaningful ways.
From classroom achievements to friendships built on kindness, and from morning greetings to leadership roles across campus—our students have shown resilience, curiosity, and joy every step of the way.
Now, it’s time to rest, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved summer break! Whether you're traveling, spending time outdoors, or just enjoying some extra family time, I hope your summer is full of fun and relaxation.
Have an amazing summer—stay safe, keep reading, and we can’t wait to welcome you back next school year!
With gratitude,
Warmly, Michael D Howard Dean of Students Olympic View Elementary

END OF SCHOOL YEAR AND MEDICATIONS:
Please remember to pick up all medications your student had at school by 4:00 PM on June 18, 2025. We are not able to send medications home with your student or store medications over the summer. All medications left after 4:00 PM on the 18th will be destroyed. If your student has a life-threatening condition, medications must remain at school until the end of the school day on Wednesday, June 18th.
SCHOOL YEAR 2025-26:
ALL medication administration authorizations and health plans are good for one school year only and must be renewed annually. If your child requires a health plan or needs to take medication during the school day for the school year 2025-2026 (this includes any prescription, over-the-counter medications, or inhalers used at school, during team sports practices, or after school activities), please download the appropriate form from the district website https://www.ohsd.net/5568_3. Forms may also be picked up in your school’s office. Have your healthcare provider complete the form before school starts in the fall. Parents/Guardians must sign all forms. Please bring the completed medication authorization, health plan, and the medication in the original over-the-counter or labeled prescription container when school begins in the fall. Medications cannot be accepted from students.
DIABETES, LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES, SEVERE ASTHMA, AND SEIZURES: Health plans and emergency medication for Diabetes, Life-Threatening Allergies, Severe Asthma & Seizures must be at school before the first day of the new school year, September 3, 2025. School office staff can begin accepting these items in August. School nursing staff will be available starting August 18, 2025. Students with life-threatening conditions will be excluded from school until the signed health plan and medication are at school. If your student has diabetes, your school nurse will contact you to set up a meeting prior to the first day of school to establish the required diabetes health plan. Current healthcare providers’ orders from the most recent diabetes checkup will be required.

There are so many activities happening at Olympic View Elementary that make school such a fun place to be. We are celebrating OVE’s ABC Countdown to Summer 2025 with themed days, like “B” for Bubble Day "I" for Inside Out Clothes Day!
Our Color Run Fundraiser is in full swing. Thanks to your support, students have already earned Mochi Squish toys and sunglasses for the entire school! They’re now working toward exciting activities like taping Mrs. Lucero to the wall and tie-dyeing her clothes.
I am especially looking forward to the Color Run (6/6) and Field Day (6/13). If you would like to experience these fun days, please volunteer! If you aren’t already a cleared volunteer, please fill out OHPS volunteer form two weeks in advance.
Looking for ways to keep your child engaged and building social skills over the summer? North Whidbey Parks and Recreation is offering Camp Trail Blaze Day Camp! Need assistance with the cost of day camp or other activities? Island County provides a Health Island Youth Initiative scholarship.
To keep the learning going strong, we also encourage students to join the Sno-Isle Summer Reading Challenge. Summer reading supports academic growth and helps students return to school ready to learn. You can download all the materials here or visit the Oak Harbor Library next to the Skagit Valley College Whidbey Island Campus.
Thank you for a wonderful school year - wishing you and your family a joyful and restful summer!
